MAKING RIBBON TIES
Several of the designs or their variations are fastened by ribbon ties, which are simple for children to fasten themselves and save you moving buttons as the child grows. Ribbons ties are strips of fabric cut on the straight grain of the fabric. Cut each strip to the length you require and 6.5 cm (2 ^ in) wide. With right sides together, fold each strip in half lengthways. Machine the long edges together (4a). To turn the ribbon tie right side out, attach a safety pin to one end, through one layer of fabric only (4b).
